The world as we know it is dramatically shifting in response to the worldwide refugee crisis. Thousands have fled Syria in a desperate attempt to save their lives where more than 200,000 civilians have been killed. According to the United Nations, there will be roughly 4.7 million refugees who have fled Syria by the end of 2016.
Refugees are one of the most vulnerable populations. They leave their country with no money, poor health, and trauma from years of civil war. Considering the needs of this population is a task that every country should take into account, but when it comes to clothing, housing, education, jobs, and basic health, they fall short. Thankfully there are a number of international organizations that are taking strides in providing basic support for refugees.
However, these organizations are also depleting their resources due to the growing number of refugees in need of support. This gap between resources and funds can be filled by people like you. By donating to organizations such as the International Rescue Committee, you can help someone in need of primary and reproductive care, a child receive clothing, or help a family start a new life in a new country.
Why should you care? In times of distress, we are motivated by a shared love for humanity. We help our neighbors when they are in need, so why not do the same for your global neighbors? No matter how small or large your donation, you can be confident that it is being put to good use through reputable organizations. I urge you to cook a meal at home and donate those $10 to help someone who needs it the most.
